"I have been involved with different tutoring programs over the years and without fail, they all are effective in contributing to our school’s success. The fact that the teacher has quality time and small groups to work with makes our educational goals achievable."
-Robyn Feller, fourth grade teacher, Newlon Elementary
The DPS Foundation supports DPS Tutoring Services for students in grades 3-10, providing them with supplemental instruction in math and literacy.
Tutoring programs consist of small-group instruction, usually after school, allowing students to receive the extra attention they need to practice and master new skills. These sessions are taught by DPS classroom teachers.
Each spring, schools may apply for up to $6,000 in funding to support their tutoring programs. To receive a Tutoring Services grant, schools must use a research-based curriculum. In the 2009-10 school year, 73 schools participated in the Tutoring Services program, benefiting more than 3,000 students.
