School partners program:
frequently asked questions

What are the benefits to being a school partner?

Partners enjoy a positive connection to students and the community, a better sense of understanding of the challenges facing the school system, and a sense of personal involvement in the schools.  Research shows that productive partnerships improve schools, increase student achievement, strengthen families, and energize communities.  Partners also receive public recognition through DPS Foundation website exposure and media opportunities.   DPS school partners can be proud of their contributions to educating Denver’s future leaders.

What is the time commitment?

There is no formal time commitment for the school partners program; however partners are asked to maintain regular contact with one another during the school year.   Partners are also highly encouraged to attend district-wide partnership training and recognition events one to two times per year.

How do I select a partner school?

Selecting the best school for your organization is a crucial step in the partnership process.  The first step in the process is to contact the School Partners Program and express an interest in being a school partner.   The School Partners program manager will help define your preferences, and based on your organization’s criteria, arrange for site visits to one or more schools.  During this visit you will have the opportunity to meet the school leadership and discuss the needs of the school.   Click here for more information and to initiate the process of becoming a partner.

Can an individual partner with a school?

Denver Public Schools welcomes and encourages support from individuals; however the School Partners Program is specifically designed for business and organizations.  To volunteer as an individual please contact the DPS Office of Volunteer Services.   To make a financial gift to DPS or a specific school, please visit the DPS Foundation website and contact us at 720.423.3553 for further information.

What is the financial commitment?

There is no defined financial commitment to become a school partner and partnerships vary widely based on the size and resources of the partners and the needs of the school. Financial and non-financial resources are welcomed and embraced. Creativity in how you help is highly encouraged, and schools and business will work together to establish a meaningful partnership regardless of budget.  Examples of financial and non-financial partnership activities can be found here.
