DPS Foundation Elects Three New Board Members; Donna Lynne, Kaiser Permanente Colorado President, Named Board Chair

DENVER, August 4, 2011 – The Denver Public Schools (DPS) Foundation has announced the addition of three Denver business and community leaders to its Board of Directors. In addition, a new slate of officers has been confirmed for the coming year, led by Kaiser Permanente Colorado President Donna Lynne as Chair.

Joining the DPS Foundation Board of Directors are Julie Bock, community leader; Mary Seawell, Board Treasurer of the Denver Board of Education; and Lee White, Executive Vice President and Manager for George K. Baum & Company at its Denver Public Finance headquarters. All three new board members are current or former proud DPS parents.

Julie Bock
Until 1999, Julie Bock worked in finance as a Portfolio Manager in the Investment Division of Great-West Life and as an Investment Banker for JP Morgan in New York City. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst with experience in fixed income, asset-backed securities, leveraged leases and equity, and in managing the investments of a variety of private and corporate clients. For the past 20 years, Bock has been active in the Denver community. Since 2003, she has served as a Trustee for Graland Country Day School, assisting with strategic planning, institutional performance analysis, policy-making, fundraising, communications and, most recently, project management for the campus’s $7 million building program.

Mary Seawell was elected to the Denver Board of Education as an at-large representative in 2009. Before joining the board, Seawell worked for Get Smart Schools to create an MBA in School Leadership at the University of Denver. In 2000 she was contracted by the Ford Foundation to evaluate Uganda’s only legal aid clinic. Prior to that, she helped coordinate a statewide community planning effort for HIV/AIDS prevention and created a medical monitoring program for communities surrounding the Rocky Mountain Arsenal for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Mary and her husband, Lee Ferguson, are raising their three daughters in the Stapleton neighborhood.

Lee White has been in the investment banking business for 28 years and is responsible for underwriting over $7 billion of municipal bonds. He assisted numerous state and local governments and private corporations in financing their infrastructure needs. Prior to his career in investment banking, he served in state government at the cabinet level. White is active in higher education and is the nation’s leading banker for non-recourse student housing projects. White was elected to the Denver Board of Education in 1996, and served for four years.

The new appointees join a Board of Directors comprised of twenty-one business and community leaders. The board is led by a slate of officers including Donna Lynne as Chair, Brooke Brown as Chair-Elect, Kristin Richardson as Past Chair, Jeff Ross as Treasurer and Craig Umbaugh as Secretary.
