Denver Public Schools Foundation Names Kristin Richardson as

New Board Chairperson

DENVER, March 31, 2008 – The Denver Public Schools (DPS) Foundation has named Kristin Richardson as the chairperson of its board of directors, filling the vacancy left by Bruce Benson as he moved on to become president of the University of Colorado.

Richardson has been an accomplished community leader in Denver for many years, serving on the DPS Foundation board since 2003. She has chaired the DPS Foundation gala and served on the Foundation’s development committee, governance committee and School Partners committee. She also serves on the boards of Children’s Hospital Foundation and Denver Academy.  She has planned and hosted numerous successful fundraising and membership events for organizations including Colorado Ballet, Central City Opera, Opera Colorado, Children’s Hospital, Museum of Nature and Science, Save Our Youth, Denver Art Museum, and others.

“Kristin has been an able and proven advocate for DPS on our board,” said Barbara Berv, president of the DPS Foundation. “The DPS Foundation has an exciting year ahead of us as we raise funding and build community support for a variety of strategic educational reforms within the school district, and Kristin will do an excellent job providing leadership for these efforts. We are honored to have her as our chairperson.”

Richardson’s professional background includes work in bond trading and institutional fixed income sales for E.F. Hutton. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Biology from Randolph Macon Women’s College, and did post-graduate work in business at Marquette University. Kristin and her husband Blair have four children.

“I come from a family of educators. My mother taught first grade for 35 years and my father was a high school teacher, so the educational process has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Richardson said. “I would like to see DPS rise to the top of urban school districts in the country. Through innovative thinking and community involvement, I feel we can make a permanent, positive change in our public schools.”
